The Battlefield of Your Mind

Is it profitable to think on the things of God? Why are we told in the word of God to do this? What does it matter what we think?

"Whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and lovable, what ever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue and excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on and weigh and take account of these things (fix your mind on them)." (Philippians 4:8, The Amplified Bible)

The mind is the battlefield that Satan uses to gain control and power in our lives. Our thoughts direct our lives. As we think (dwell or meditate) on the things of God, we are pulled into the revelation of His word for wisdom and understanding. As His word comes alive in us, we are open to His wisdom and understanding. Have you ever been out in the freezing cold weather, then walked into a warm room, covered yourself with a warm blanket, and felt the warmth saturate your whole body? That's a great example of how it feels to saturate your mind with God's word. It blocks out wrong thinking and fills you with peace and joy. What a glorious feeling! You can feel the warmth of God's love covering you.

When we completely trust God, and believe His word, we can also rest in Him. Resting in Him goes beyond our description of rest. His rest goes beyond relaxation as we know it. It goes beyond all peace and joy that we have experienced. As we think on these things in God's word, we enter another realm of His divine love and rest.

"You will guard him and keep him in perfect and constant peace whose mind (both its inclination and its character) is stayed on you, because he commits himself to You, leans on You, and hopes confidently in You." (Isaiah 26:3, The Amplified Bible)

As we enter this new realm of trust, it becomes easier to pray, "Your will be done." It is the most perfect prayer. "Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven." Now I am able to pray that prayer and really mean it. It is the prayer that never fails.

We can think about the things of God all day long, carry His words deep within our hearts and minds, and live in His joy, peace, and rest. What a wonderful way to live!

"The entrance and unfolding of Your words give light; their unfolding gives understanding (discernment and comprehension) to the simple." (Psalm 119:130, The Amplified Bible)

"For as he thinks in his heart, so is he." (Proverbs 23:7, The Amplified Bible)
